Leggett asked the Tigers coach if he could be assured of wearing No. 10 in college, the same jersey number worn by Ian Lockwood. Lockwood, a one-time receiver at Navarre himself, died in January of 2011 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
Leggett, who called Lockwood one of his closest friends at the school, made it a point to express to Swinney the significance of number.
“I just had to have that number, that’s the one thing I asked for,” Leggett said. “They asked me the significance behind it. After I told him, he said, ‘That’s fine. When you get here, that’s your number.’
