Clemson #18 in Baseball America Rankings

by -

DURHAM, N.C.‹North Carolina split two games with North Carolina State, which

was enough to keep the Tar Heels at No. 1 in the Baseball America College

Top 25 rankings.

The third game of the much-anticipated series between the Tar Heels and

Wolfpack was rained out, but the split was also enough for N.C. State to

move into the top five, coinciding with Virginia¹s series loss to Virginia

Tech. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt returned to the No. 2 ranking after winning four

games against ranked opponents, including a weekend sweep of Mississippi

State. Louisiana State fell to No. 3, dropping a series at home to South

Carolina.

Four teams joined the rankings this week, led by South Alabama at No. 20.

The Jaguars have won seven straight games and lead the Sun Belt Conference.

Florida also returns to the rankings for the first times since Feb. 18 after

winning its third straight Southeastern Conference series. Kentucky returns

after a one-week absence at No. 24, and Virginia Tech rejoins the rankings

after a three-week absence.

The SEC leads all conferences with eight ranked teams this week. The

Atlantic Coast Conference follows with six teams, though four of them are in

the top 10. The Pacific-12 (four ranked teams) is the only other league with

multiple teams in the Top 25.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records

indicated are through games of April 28 and do not include ties.
