Lady Tigers' leading scorer, forward to transfer

by -

CLEMSON -- Head Coach Itoro Coleman announced that freshman guard Danaejah Grant and sophomore guard Chelsea Lindsay will transfer from Clemson, and sophomore forward Deja Hawkins will take a medical hardship. The roster moves are effective immediately.

Hawkins will continue her education at Clemson, as she is in her second year studying Modern Language and Spanish.

"We will miss Deja's presence on the court," said Coleman. "However, she will remain around the team and we will benefit from her positive attitude and energy. I am glad that she will be able to achieve her main goal of becoming a college graduate."

The 6-3 forward from Landover, MD has appeared in 14 career games for a total of 60 minutes. She scored a career-best eight points against Maryland last season, making three of her five field goal attempts, including a three-pointer. Hawkins will travel abroad to Argentina for the fall 2013 semester as she moves toward her degree.

Grant will return to her home in Piscataway, NJ following final exams, and will enroll in another institution in the spring. Her future destination is unknown at this time.

"I respect Danaejah's decision to leave in order to be closer to home, and Chelsea's wishes to find a program that better suits her needs," said Coleman. "I appreciate both of their efforts, and wish them all the best in the future."

Grant, a 5-9 guard, was Clemson's leading scorer this season at 13.4 points per game, and also added 5.9 rebounds per game. She scored in double-figures in six of the seven games in which she appeared, all starts. She did not appear in Clemson's most recent meeting against SC State last Sunday.

Lindsay, who hails from Durham, NC, started 33 of 36 career games, including seven this season. Last year, she led all league freshmen in minutes per game, assists per game, and assist-to-turnover ratio. She's averaging 2.0 points and 2.2 assists per game this season in 27.6 minutes per game.
