As reported earlier, Crestwood DB Damien Wright confirmed that he indeed did commit to South Carolina over Clemson. Wright enjoyed the idea of being able to come in and compete for a starting job next season.

"They told me I will have a chance to start next year, because they are thin at my position. I will be competing against the other recruits they sign this year. Hopefully, I can come in and start."

Wright did not want his recruiting to be a distraction from his schoolwork or his upcoming season. He had made up his mind as early as a week ago.

"Last week, I had really made up my mind. I just wanted to talk over it with my parents and take the visit today."

His unofficial visit to Columbia and meeting with Rick Stockstill today did nothing to change his mind.

"I love the school, and Columbia is not too big and it is not too small. I feel very comfortable playing for the Gamecocks and in their system. I will take no official visits."

Wright did not take the unofficial visit to Clemson as he had planned to do a couple of weeks ago. Wright is now the second member to the 2005 recruiting class for South Carolina.
