Here is the latest report from North Augusta:

The status of North Augusta ATH C.J. Byrd (6-3, 189, 4.37), the state’s consensus No. 1 college prospect, is listed as “questionable” for Friday’s HOME game against Dutch Fork.

Byrd is recovering from a high ankle sprain he suffered shortly after halftime in last Friday’s 40-13 win over Midland Valley. Byrd went to hospital after the game and had X-rays. He was on crutches the next day, but by Monday was limping around with a soft cast around his left ankle.

In around a halftime of action against Midland Valley, Byrd had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a two-yard fumble return for a touchdown, and 177 all-purpose yards (two rushes for 22 yards, two catches for 36 yards, and four returns for 119 yards).

Byrd was even better on defense with 10 total tackles, including two big hits that drew a reaction from the crowd. Byrd said Tuesday there is a “50-50 chance” he could play Friday or that he could be out for two weeks, depending on what the medical trainer said later this week.

Due to the injury, Byrd was unable to make an unofficial visit to the University of Georgia this past weekend. Byrd said he was planning on traveling to Clemson the upcoming Saturday for the Georgia Tech contest.

Other top performers vs. Midland Valley were LB Maurice Simmons (12 tackles), QB Will Churm (7 of 11 for 133 yards for 1 TD, no INTs), QB Justin Wheeler (passing for 72 yards and rushing for 56), and RB Astin Crawford (11 carries for 96 yards).
