Tight End Will Visit Clemson
One of the most asked about recruits the last two weeks has been Jonathan Massey. Massey is one of the most talented tight ends in the country this season. The Tigers will look to sign two tight ends in this class. Cole Downer, Bobby Williamson, and Thomas Hunter will all graduate following the season.
The staff is redshirting two talented tight ends in Paul Muse and Durrell Barry, but with Rob Spence at the helm, this area is in clear need of more depth.
Massey is the top tight end prospect on the board. He is being recruited by defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, whose recruiting efforts have been a pleasant surprise. Massey has already lined up an official visit date with Clemson.
"I am going to visit Clemson on January 13th. Coach Koenning said that is a big weekend for them, because they have their banquet. I will also visit Ole Miss (12/2), Vanderbilt (12/9), and Southern Miss (12/16)."
Does any school hold the edge for Massey?
"No one is my leader. They are all good schools on the field and off the field. Academics are important, and I will look at the graduation rate for athletes at each school. All of the schools use the tight ends well. Clemson has just started getting their tight ends involved, and I like how they use the tight end. They bring the tight end out of the backfield a lot, and I like that."
Massey is a little undersized for a tight end at 6-2, but he has no problems getting open.
"I think a lot of teams feel like they can jam, but that may be where I am at my best. I get off of press man coverage really well."
We will continue to track Massey's recruitment as his official visits approach.
*Note: If Florida State gets the fifth official visit, the Seminoles could be very difficult to beat as Massey is the little brother of former Seminole Mario Edwards.
