Junior offensive tackle Derwin Gray Derwin Gray
View Full Profile from Washington D.C. Dunbar started his first game of the year on Saturday -- a loss to Baltimore Dunbar at the I-95 Classic at Morgan State in the the first meeting between the two same-named teams since 1961 -- but that wasn't the only big event for him this week.
On Thursday, NCAA rules allowed more contact between recruiters and junior prospects, making Gray was a very popular man.
"It was kind of a big day," the 6-5, 260-pounder said. "I kind of forgot. Then I was getting calls from all over the place. Then I was like 'Oh yeah, cool.'"
Gray said at least 10 schools called even though he couldn't remember them all. Florida, Miami, Penn State, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Connecticut and Purdue made enough of an impression to easily recall.
Gray has eight scholarship offers -- Auburn, Michigan State, Syracuse, Tennessee State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Clemson, West Virginia and North Carolina. Still, he's putting it all on the back burner.
"Right now, I'm not focused on recruiting," Gray said. "I'm focused on my season. I'm just taking everything in."
