One area of concern with the 2006 football team is depth at offensive tackle. Barry Richardson and Marion Dukes are the clear cut starters, but there is wide gap between the ones and twos.
With Dukes being a senior and the potential for Richardson to depart for the NFL, offensive tackle is a need in this class. Clemson has already landed Greenville's David Smith, and they are in the mix with several big name tackles. One of those being Trinton Sturdivant. Sturdivant has over 25 written offers heading into April. He says he likes what Clemson has to offer. "Clemson is a good school. When I went there for junior day, they really made me feel special. Everyone took time to talk to me and really made me feel wanted. Coach (Brad) Scott talked with me for a long time. He showed me the depth chart, and what they could be losing." "I could graduate in December, so I would have a chance to come in and compete early wherever I go. I have noticed a lot of playersh have started graduating early, and it really helps them get a leg up on their freshman season." Billy Napier is recruiting Sturdivant for the Tigers. "He sends me letters almost everyday. I know it is his first year, but I believe he is going to be a good coach for Clemson. He is very professional in his approach. Coach Napier will answer any question you have honestly." With over 25 written offers, Sturdivant certainly has his work cut out for him to narrow it down. He says he does have a very preliminary top three. "Right now, my top three schools would Clemson, Georgia, and NC State. All of that could change, but I know I like those three." Sturdivant hails from the same high school as former Tiger Dejuan Polk.
