Darius Gaither (6-1, 200, 4.4) of Winnsboro, SC called us tonight at 8:45 pm to tell us he had made a decision. “I committed to Clemson and coach Scott,” said Gaither.
“Coach Scott did a great job recruiting me,” says Gaither. “I really like Coach Scott. In fact I like the entire staff at Clemson. The coaches from Clemson were really prepared and did a nice job recruiting me.”
Gaither will play in the upcoming Shrine Bowl game a week from Saturday. He was injured with a high ankle sprain most of his senior season but still rushed for 461 yards and eight touchdowns on 31 carries. On defense he had one interception in the four games in which he played.
“I had offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland, South Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, North Carolina and several other schools,” said the Fairfield Central High School star. “It really came down to Clemson, Tennessee and Maryland.”
“My grandmother really wanted me to stay close to home. She was very comfortable with my decision. I went to Clemson a few times in the past and really liked it.”
Gaither plans to run track after the football season and has personal best of 10.8 in the 100m and 22.3 in the 200m.
Today he became the 14th Clemson commitment as the Tigers will inked 20-22 prospects in February.
Gaither is working out after school on Tuesday but will be a guest on "The Overdrive" Wednesday from 3-5 pm on WCCP-FM 104.9 and can be heard at www.wccpfm.com.
Editors note: I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed my conversation with Darius tonight. He is a very bright and thoughtful young person. Clemson fans will enjoy his interview on the radio Wednesday.
