McGaskin Plans Visits; Nears Decision
Several players Clemson is recruiting wanted to make decisions over the summer. Heading into the final week of June, it is almost time for business to pick up. One player, who is closing in on a decision, is Elliot McGaskin.
McGaskin is a hard hitting safety from Mobile, Alabama. He is part of a loaded B.C. Rain, along with Ryan Williams.
McGaskin wants to take a trip to the Palmetto State and possibly take a trip to Illinois.
"Clemson and South Carolina are in my top group. I really like both schools, and I want to see what they have to offer. Illinois, I just want to see a Big Ten school, and see how different it is from the schools down here."
Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning is recruiting McGaskin for the Tigers.
"Coach Vic is a good recruiter. He also coaches the secondary at Clemson. He says his defense thrives on making big plays and creating turnovers. I like that a lot, because I want to play for a defense that is going to put me in the right spot. I think he is close to giving me an offer."
McGaskin says he also believes the other Palmetto State school is headed in the right direction.
"South Carolina is on the way up. I know they really need help on defense, and I could come in and play early there. Coach Cooper gave me an offer after he watched me practice."
Clemson and South Carolina are strong contenders for McGaskin, but they soon could be competing with McGaskin's childhood favorite.
"I think Alabama is close to offering. I have been an Alabama fan all my life. If they offer, they would be my top school. I don't know if I would commit right away, but that would be very special to get a chance to play at Alabama."
McGaskin wants to make a decision soon, but he will likely wait until he receives word from Alabama and Clemson on his status before making a decision.
