The class of 2007 in South Carolina is very deep, but one player who clearly sits firmly in the top group is Cliff Matthews. Matthews is one of the top defensive end prospects in the southeast.

Last Saturday, Matthews had a chance to take in South Carolina's spring game.

"I went to South Carolina last Saturday for their spring game. There was a lot of recruits there, and I had the chance to spend some time with a few guys, who were already committed to South Carolina. They were telling me that I needed to come join them."

Matthews took a trip to Clemson on Tuesday this week for an unofficial visit.

"I went up to Clemson with one of my coaches. Coach Swinney took time to sit down and talk with us, and then he showed me around the campus. I did talk to Coach Bowden before I left. I am thinking about possibly trying to play basketball and football in college. Coach Bowden said he would allow me to play basketball. He said he has had players who played baseball and football, but never had a player play basketball and football."

Matthews said he has not spoken with Clemson head coach Oliver Purnell.

Matthews was a slight lean to Clemson early in the process, but now he says things are all even.

"Clemson, South Carolina, and Georgia are all right there together with me. I am not sure when I will make a decision."
