Barnett had recently received an offer from Alabama through its new linebacker coach Kevin Steele. Barnett also has offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Tennessee, and others.

Clemson offered on 4/24/13. As a sophomore, he had 63 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and twelve sacks. In 2013, he had 89 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He took part in the Dabo Swinney football camp in June 2012 and 2013.
