Clemson's recruitment of tight ends has changed since Rob Spence was hired as the offensive coordinator. The role of the tight end has greatly increased since his arrival. The Tigers will continue their efforts to upgrade the tight end position with the class of 2007.

One tight end who holds Clemson as one of his early leaders is Brendan Choy. Choy is awaiting his first offer, but he receives letters from Iowa, Clemson, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Maryland.

Choy says their is several things he likes about the Tigers.

"Clemson is a great school. The program has really done some good things over the last few years. They have beaten FSU two of the last three years, and they are really on the verge of competing for a national title. Clemson is one of the top atmospheres for college football."

Choy also list the Iowa Hawkeyes as one of his early favorites.

"I used to live out there, so I am familiar with the area. I know not too many players in Florida wind up at Iowa. Iowa has had success with putting tight ends in the NFL. Dallas Clark, with the Colts, was one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL this year."

It is important for Choy to find a school that is going to use the tight end regularly in their offense. It is one reason why Clemson and Iowa are high on his list.

"Both schools use the tight end a lot in their offense. Clemson just started implementing the tight end more last year. It will be a key factor that I watch for this season."

We will continue to track Choy as he awaits his first offer.
