DeShawn Williams knew when he took over No. 99 at Daniel High School that he had a lot to live up to – former Lion Jarvis Jenkins had a solid high school career before going on to Clemson.
Now, Williams gets to try and fill those shoes again because he will wear No. 99 as a Tiger, the same number worn by Jenkins during his time at Clemson. “I will be 99, and words can't describe how that makes me feel,” Williams told TigerNet Sunday morning following his official visit. “I know I have big shoes to fill with Jarvis, but I’ve had to fill those since I got that number at Daniel. It’s a big honor, because I worked hard to get that number in high school. Now, I have to start over. I have to work my way up and prove that I deserve to wear No. 99 out there again.” Williams said he enjoyed his official visit. “It was good. We came in Friday at five and checked into the hotel. Then we ate dinner with our hosts that night, and then we left and went and hung out with our hosts. We got up Saturday at eight and ate breakfast with the other recruits, and then we took a tour of Vickery Hall. They are serious about academics there, so we really had to pay attention. Then we went to Lightsey Bridge and saw Justin Parker and Tra Thomas and Nuke Hopkins and saw where we will be staying. We ate lunch, and then we went to the banquet, and I had a lot of fun at the banquet. They were having fun, and it’s hard to believe they are a 6-7 team and are still together like that. I saw Da’Quan and Jarvis, and they told us how they remember being recruits. They said the time goes by fast and to cherish every moment you have and to keep working. That makes me want to win a championship with this team. I got to hang out with Phillip Dukes, and I talked to Stephone Anthony, Tony Steward and Jeoffrey Pagan. Pagan, his mom and my mom got real close. “
