According to Clowney's High School coach via The Sporting News:
"Clowney's in the same mold with all of the great ones," his high school coach, Bobby Carroll, told Sporting News. "Again, he's 6-6, 250 pounds and runs a 4.48 in the 40 yard dash. He's not clumsy at all. Some tall kids are clumsy, but not this one. He has power cleaned 335 pounds. I've never had anybody do that high a number. He's just rare ... He's just a wonderful kid, and of course he's never been through anything like this in his life, so he's taking it all in stride." Carroll said both Alabama and South Carolina have been at it since the beginning. "There's no doubt both of them (South Carolina and Alabama) are recruiting him heavily," Carroll said. "All of the schools think he can come in and play pretty quickly. ... The ACC coaches that come through say, 'If we don't get him, we just have to make sure he goes to the SEC so we don't have to coach against him," Carroll told the Sporting News.
