His father Jack Huggins was a relief pitcher for the Tigers from 1986-1989. The main recruiters of record for his son were Bradley LeCroy and Dan Pepicelli.

Diamond Prospects ranked him the #1 left-handed pitcher in the state of South Carolina. He already has four pitches of note: a 86 MPH fastball, change-up, slider and curveball.
