South Pointe (SC)’s Clemson commits both did their part to advance the 13-0 Stallions on in the 4A playoffs.
Derion Kendrick, a Tigers receiver commit, connected on 11-of-17 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown – and added eight rushes for 61 yards and two more touchdowns in a 48-0 win over Eastside: Placekicker/punter B.T. Potter knocked eight touchbacks into the end zone on kickoffs, and he also saved a potential safety on a snap into the end zone by tracking it down and switching to a left-footed punt (which wasn't the first time this season he's done that). Potter has logged 99 touchbacks in 106 kickoffs this season and also made 11-of-15 field goals (long of 45 yards). Kendrick is approaching 1,000 yards rushing (913) and 2,500 passing (2,317) with a 71 completion rate, 25 touchdowns to five interceptions and 14 rushing scores. South Pointe is ranked No. 5 nationally by USA TODAY. Trevor Lawrence – 5-star Cartersville (GA) QB Lawrence’s high school career wrapped under constant pressure from visiting Blessed Trinity (Ga.), which scored late to end Cartersville’s 41-game winning streak with a 21-17 victory of their own. Lawrence was sacked four times, connecting on 16-of-29 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown. It was Lawrence's only non-multi-score game this season. The 6-foot-6 prospect passed for 41 touchdowns to one interception as a senior, with 3,296 passing yards at a 69.1 completion rate. His high school state records finished at a little under 14,000 yards passing (13,908) and over 160 passing scores (161). Quick hits: Greater Atlanta Christian and 4-star athlete Kyler McMichael advanced in the playoffs with a 38-21 win over Lovett (Ga.). McMichael didn’t reach the end zone in that one, breaking a streak of eight-straight games with a touchdown. He’s scored 23 rushing touchdowns this season, including multiple-score games in each of that eight-game run…So did 2019 S Joseph Charleston’s, in a 28-23 Milton (Ga.) defeat to Brookwood. Charleston went into the game with 59 total stops (46 solo) with two interceptions…2018 3-star DT Josh Belk’s season came to a close with Lewisville (SC) in a 28-24 loss...2019 Calhoun (Ga.) athlete Brannon Spector moved on in the playoffs with a 28-20 win over Monroe Area.
