When Marion Hobby was hired at Clemson, many believed he would improve the Tigers’ recruiting efforts in the state of North Carolina. Coach Hobby made solid headway in North Carolina, when he received a verbal commitment from Asheville’s Crezdon Butler.
Butler is one of the top players in North Carolina regardless of position. Butler took an official visit to Clemson this past weekend. “It went pretty good. It was everything I expected. The basketball game topped it off, even though they didn’t win.” Butler was hosted by fellow North Carolina native CJ Gaddis. Butler said the two players have a lot in common. “CJ played quarterback in high school, and I played quarterback in high school. He plays defense now, and I know I am going to be playing corner. He talked to me about some of the things he had a hard time with.” Butler says his relationship with Coach Hobby has really grown. “Coach Hobby is coming up to bowl with me and my Dad. Our relationship has really grown since I committed. Coach Hobby say’s he is a pretty good bowler, but I am pretty good, so we’ll see.” Butler met with Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden before leaving Clemson. Coach Bowden said nothing that would lower expectations. “Coach Bowden told me I was going to be an impact player, and that I was in good hands.” The Asheville native will bring more speed to the Tigers secondary. Butler ran a 10.79 100 meter dash, which is a very good time for an inexperienced track athlete. Butler will run track this year, and his time should get even faster.
