If you asked the locals in Punta Gorda, FL that have watched Mike Bellamy’s record breaking season, many would say he plays like Superman. However, if Mike Bellamy is Superman, then his “kryptonite” is the Armwood Hawks.
The Hawks end the season for Mike Bellamy and the Charlotte Tarpons by winning 28-12 in the Class 4A-Region 3 final last week. Charlotte finished 12-1. The Armwood Hawks have beaten the Tarpons the last two seasons in the Region 3 finals. The Hawks used a very stout run defense and limited Bellamy to only 49 rushing yards on 18 carries and no touchdowns. It was the first time Bellamy had not scored a touchdown in 38 games, an incredible streak that dating back to late in his freshman season. “We just beat ourselves. That’s all I can say. We just beat ourselves,” Bellamy told the Herald-Tribune. For the season, Bellamy ran for 2,383 yards and 40 scores. Bellamy finishes his career as the state of Florida's all time record holder with 110 touchdowns, and he is #5 all time on the state's career rushing, with 7,321 yards.
