Roderick Battle - Defensive Line
Height: 6-3   Weight: 240   Hometown: Atlanta, GA (Douglass HS)   Class: 2005
ESPN: NR

Roderick Battle is one of the fastest rising defensive line prospects in the south. Clemson was one of the first schools to offer Battle. Battle's top three in no order are Clemson, Georgia, and Auburn. He attended camps at Clemson and Auburn this past summer. Battle described several factors he liked about each school in his top three and here is what he had to say:

"Auburn has two seniors that start at defensive end. It presents a great chance to play early. It is a good football school close to home. I have developed a good relationship with Coach Price.

Georgia is the home school. They also have two seniors that start at defensive end. I would have a chance to compete for a national championship. I haven't been to an actual game, but I understand it is a great atmosphere. Coach Richt just signed an 8 year contract extension, so I know he will be there.

At Clemson, I have a lot of respect for Coach Bowden. The finish they had last year showed they are ready to compete in the ACC. They have a good game atmosphere. Hopefully one day I will have a chance to run down the Hill."

Clemson is the only school that Battle has attended a game at so far this year.

"The atmosphere was crazy. That was the only college game I have ever been. It really showed me what college football was all about. I was just impressed with the whole atmosphere. I really liked how everyone was wearing orange. I have never seen that much orange in one place."

There was speculation back during the summer that Battle could be an early commitment. Battle has pushed his decision back into the season, but may be getting closer to a decision.

"As soon as I go to game at all three, I may be ready to make my decision. I know I will take an official visit to Clemson, but I haven't set it up yet. Clemson is still firmly in my top three."

Coach Burton Burns is recruiting Battle for the Tigers. Much like the strong relationship he has built with Battle's teammate, James Davis, he has a very strong tie with Battle as well.

"Coach Burns is a cool guy. He is very down to earth. There is nothing that I don't feel comfortable talking to him about. That is what you want to feel comfortable around your coach."

Battle's season started off with a 22 tackle perfomance in a victory. He now has six sacks in 4 games.
