James Davis - Running Back

Last season the Tigers rolled the dice with Jamaal Edwards and came up short. The staff felt the they could afford to turn down other running backs because of the depth they already had on campus. However, this season is a different story. The Tigers could sign 2-3 running backs in this class.

Perhaps the top prospect on the Clemson board at running back is Atlanta superstar James Davis. This is one of the top backs in the South with over 20 offers.

"I really want to learn as much about each school as I can," says Davis. "I want to remain open and just learn about the schools. I would say Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State and North Carolina are the schools that come to mind. All of those have offered."

Davis had an excellent junior season. "Last year, I had 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns," says the Douglass High star. I need to get stronger. Right now I bench 275 pounds and squat 390."

Davis is 6-0 and 205 and says he runs a 4.4. He has had a busy summer. "I have been to a lot of schools so far," says Davis. "I have been to most of the schools I am looking at."

When asked about his top five Davis responded, "It changes but you could put Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia tech and Ohio State there right now."

"This summer I went to Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama," says Davis.

His Clemson trip was his second to Death Valley. "I camped there last year and Coach (Burton) Burns is great. I like him and know him well. He shoots me straight. Coach Burns is easy to talk to."

The Tigers will be in this one for the long haul but the competition most likely headed by Tennessee and Alabama will be there as well.
