Clemson had offered Smith for the 2012 recruiting class.

Smith had 47 tackles and eight interceptions during his junior season. He has taken unofficial visits to GT, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.

Smith has made appearances at Junior Days at Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Miami. He has accepted an invitation to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
