WATCH: McNamara with long-range strike

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson standout soccer player Thomas McNamara scored his first goal for New York City FC (53rd minute and his first start) on Saturday in a 2-1 comeback road win against the Philadelphia Union. It was his second career goal (1 with Chivas USA).

The 25-yard strike to the upper right corner of the goal was the #2 play in Sportscenter's Top Plays on Saturday.

It was the first road win in the history of New York City FC.

McNamara's road to New York City FC has had a few twists and turns since he turned pro last season. Chivas USA picked McNamara with the first pick of the 2nd round in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. After the team's contraction, D.C. United selected him in the 2014 MLS Dispersal Draft. McNamara was left unprotected and then picked with the 8th overall pick by New York City FC in the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft.
