Word was out on Wednesday morning that quarterback
Kelly Bryant was transferring from Clemson.
Bryant started 18 games and Clemson won 16 of those and he had improved his passing efficiency numbers from last season, but Bryant faced stiff competition from the five-star freshman Trevor Lawrence, who is now in the top-10 nationally in passing efficiency and yards per attempt. Clemson fans, former players, and national media pundits went wild with talk of how this would affect the Clemson Football team and Bryant's future. To me, it was kind of a slap in the face." You may not agree with his verbage but if that’s what HE felt about the situation than that’s how he felt. No need to disbar him from Clemson because of a decision that he made. When it’s all said and done he has to be the one who looks in the mirror and live with it. Support him Trevor Lawrence is undoubtedly one of the most gifted passers in all of college football. Kelly wants to play football, if he never steps on the field his collegiate career is done. You want to prolong the opportunity to play for as long as you. Once you’re done you’re done There’s not a bone in my body that thinks the staff handled the situation wrong. Moment you start paying for tickets it becomes a business and you just hope that the players see that side of it. Life isn’t fair and we don’t always get what we want or what we think we deserve. Crazy to think that both of the starting QBs in last year’s Alabama-Clemson playoff game have since lost their jobs. Not a lot of coaches would of been honest and upfront with their QB’s the way Dabo has been. Some would have waited another week (because of new redshirt rule) to insure they had a backup plan. Clearly behind the scenes reality didn’t match the narrative. Good on Dabo Swinney to have made his QB decision before #Clemson's 5th game. If he let this drag out another wk, it would've given his team more depth at a crucial spot but cost Kelly Bryant the season. Instead, he can transfer out & gets to play someplace else as a SR in 2019. Two of the four QBs who led their teams to the Playoff last year--Alabama's Jalen Hurts and Clemson's Kelly Bryant--both have now been overtaken by talented younger quarterbacks. Different era in college football. Kelly Bryant followed the greatest #Clemson QB in program history. He went 16-2 as a starter. Handled the chaos this year with class. To criticize a college football player for making the best decision for himself - when schools and coaches have been doing that forever - is ridiculous. #Clemson When you recruit at the level Alabama and Clemson do, there are always going to be talented players who get passed up or lose their jobs. It's part of what separates programs of their ilk, the competition they're able to create on the practice field. Random thought: If Clemson loses to Syracuse again this year, the committee could rationalize it the same way as last year: Well, they didn't have Kelly Bryant.
