Three Tigers named to Preseason All-American team |
CBSSports.com released their
college football preseason All-American teams on Tuesday and three Tigers were featured with junior quarterback
Deshaun Watson and senior defensive tackle
Carlos Watkins on the first team with sophomore offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt included on the second-team.
Watson was also named Preseason Player of the Year by CBSSports.com while Alabama head coach Nick Saban was named Preseason Coach of the Year. The Heisman finalist completed 333 of 491 passes for 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns and also had 207 rushes for 1105 yards and 12 scores this past season. His 5,209 yards of total offense and his 47 total touchdowns were ACC records, and his rushing total was a record for a Clemson quarterback.
Watkins had 67 tackles, 3.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss and was the 8th leading tackler for Clemson at his nose guard position last season. After the regular season, he was named First-team All-ACC by the media.
He had two tackles including a tackle for loss in the National Championship game against Alabama.
Hyatt was the first true freshman to start his first game at Clemson since 1980 and the first offensive tackle to start the opener since 1944. He finished the season with 15 starts at left tackle as he logged the most snaps for a true freshman offensive lineman in Clemson history.
