ACC head coaches at the ACC spring meetings discussed current legislation that will pay for the full cost of attendance for student athletes that is set to begin as early as August.
Full cost of attendance includes additional payment for miscellaneous expenses such as travel to return home. The following numbers are based on a nine-month academic calendar. Clemson's cost of attendance will be $3,608 and will increase the current scholarship from $23,304 to $26,912 according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. “We’re talking about cash,” Swinney said to ESPN. “It’s one thing when you talk about a recruiting calendar or contact period but when you’re talking about cash, that’s a different deal.” Three of the four programs with the highest cost of attendance amounts in the nation are from the SEC - Tennessee ($5,666), Auburn ($5,586) and Mississippi State ($5,126). The cost of attendance projected in the ACC include Louisville (#3 in the nation) with $5,202, Florida State (#16th in the nation) with $3,884 and then Clemson at $3,608 (#20th in the nation). Clemson's in-state rival South Carolina's cost of attendance is projected to be $4,151 (13th in the nation). Boston College was the only ACC member that voted against the cost of attendance legislation. The school's cost of attendance projection is only $1,400.
