State of South Carolina ranked #8 in CFB |
The state of South Carolina is ranked #8 out of #41 in
CBSSports.com's College Football Team Rankings by State.
In the last few years, the State of South Carolina has had some of the best football in the entire nation with Clemson and South Carolina ranked high in the polls. This year, the two in-state schools have combined for 5 losses so far (Gamecocks are 3-3, 5th in SEC East Division). Interestingly, the CBS analysts has the state of Mississippi as the top state in all of College Football. This year, both Ole Miss and Mississippi State have gotten off to fast starts but I do not think of Mississippi as "the mecca or hotbed" of college football. On the other hand, the State of Hawaii is ranked as the worst state in America that has college football. Alaska, Delaware, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont do not even have a school in FBS football.
I asked, but no bonus points are awarded for the personality of head coaches. Otherwise South Carolina's Steve Spurrier and Clemson's Dabo Swinney would push the state of South Carolina to the top of the rankings. You can count on weekly gems from Spurrier, monthly musings from Dabo and a spicy back-and-forth between the two at least three times in a calendar year.
