Spiller: "I'm looking forward to keeping those bragging rights"

Former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller was back in Death Valley for the 33-13 home win against Wake Forest on Saturday for Military Appreciation Day.

Fox Carolina's Aaron Cheslock interviewed Spiller on the sidelines during the game and asked him how he enjoyed being back at Clemson.

"It’s always good when you can come back and be a part of the team doing so well," Spiller said. "It’s always a warm reception. I’m definitely glad to be back with some former players that I played with."

Spiller said Swinney's direction and vision is an important element of the success of the football program.

"You can see that he’s (Swinney) put his imprint on the program," Spiller said. "That’s why kids love to come here and play. He’s authentic. He is who he is. You’re playing for the best fans in the country. You’re getting a great education, as well. Just to see where it was and how far it’s come, is really and truly an honor. It’s an amazing feeling."

Spiller knows that in-state rivalry games can be challenging regardless of how the team's seasons are unfolding.

"Anytime you have rivalry week, you can throw out ranking, stats because those games are always different," Swinney said. "That will be a tricky one, but I’m sure Coach Swinney and the staff will have the guys ready for it. I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to keeping those bragging rights."

Spiller said that he would be very proud if the current Tigers won the national championship this season.

"To me, I’d be happy," Spiller said. "I’d be a proud alum just like all of the other alumni. I’d be happy to see this school and this team bring home a national championship, something that hasn’t happened since 1981. I’m pretty sure it would bring a ton of joy to a ton of people, but these guys are taking it one game at a time, and they’ll have a chance to play for it all."
