has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV men’s basketball team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Smith was one of five first-team selections from District IV, which covers Division I institutions from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Smith was joined on the Capital One Academic All-District Team by Brad Loesing of Wofford, Sam McLaurin of Coastal Carolina, Jay Reynolds of Presbyterian College, and Patric Young of Florida. Smith is now the only three-time all-district selection from the Clemson men’s basketball program. Former Tiger center Tom Wideman was a two-time winner (1998, 1999).

A first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District choice each of his last three seasons, Smith is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. The three-team Capital One Academic All-Americans will be announced later this month. Clemson’s most recent Academic All-American in men’s basketball was Bobby Conrad, a third-team selection in 1980.

Smith, a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, has started all 21 games for the Tigers this season and is second on the squad in scoring at 11.2 points per game. He leads the Tigers with 4.0 assists per game and is second in rebounding with 5.4 per game. He is the only player in the ACC averaging at least 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

The Alpharetta, GA native earned his undergraduate degree in December and was presented his diploma prior to the Jan. 28 home game against Wake Forest. He graduated cum laude in marketing, while becoming the first Tiger men’s basketball player (along with fellow graduate Bryan NarcisseBryan Narcisse
