CLEMSON — The final phase of Clemson University’s Scroll of Honor Memorial Plaza will be dedicated in a ceremony at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. A new walkway, which crosses Williamson Road, provides a physical link between the Scroll of Honor Memorial and Memorial Stadium.

Members of the Clemson Corps, other military veterans, Clemson ROTC Cadets, Trustee Emeritus Allen Wood and President James F. Barker will participate in the ceremony, which is open to the public.

“Clemson's football stadium was built in 1942 during World War II, and the administration named the stadium ‘Memorial Stadium’ to honor Clemson's alumni who made the supreme sacrifice in service to our country,” said alumnus Danny Rhodes, co-chairman of the Scroll of Honor committee.

“The Scroll of Honor serves as an extension of Memorial Stadium to fulfill that original purpose established in 1942, and the crosswalk provides the final link, a physical connection, between Memorial Stadium and the Scroll of Honor Memorial,” he said.

The Scroll of Honor Memorial Plaza consists of Memorial Park overlooking the Scroll of Honor barrow, which lists the names of Clemson alumni killed during military service. Major donors to the Scroll of Honor project include the graduating classes of 1954, 1958 and 1959; the Clemson Corps; the student body; the Clemson Alumni Association; and IPTAY.

Parking for the ceremony will be available at the corner of Williamson Road and the Avenue of Champions.
