Report: Dwayne Allen to be traded to Patriots

Former Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen has been traded to the New England Patriots on Wednesday according to multiple reports. ESPN's NFL reporter Field Yates' source says that the Patriots will more than likely give up a late-round pick in the draft for Allen.

"I want to give my sincerest thanks to the Irsay family for taking a chance on a kid from Fayetteville, NC," Allen tweeted. "It's been an honor wearing the horseshoe and representing the Colts on and off the field. My teammates will always be my brothers, and the friends that I've made are for life. I'm both humbled and excited for the challenge ahead of earning the right to be called a New England Patriot. May God continue to bless the city of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Colts."

Allen had re-signed with the Colts for four years worth $29.4 million with $16 million guaranteed last season. He is signed through 2019 at age 29 with cap hits for the Patriots of $4.90 million, $5 million, and $7.4 million.

He had 35 receptions for 406 yards and six receiving touchdowns in 2016. For his career, he has 126 receptions for 1,451 yards and 19 touchdowns. One of his best seasons as a professional was his rookie season where he had 45 catches for 521 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots work a lot of multiple tight end sets in their offense and really get their tight ends involved in the passing game.
