will open the season with the Modesto Nuts. The Nuts are a Class A - Advanced team in the California League and a farm team of the Colorado Rockies. Parker is the 9th ranked prospect in the Rockies organization, according to Baseball America. Parker, who will open the 2012 California League season Thursday as the starting right fielder for the Modesto Nuts, was a starting quarterback at Clemson University. "It seems like the Rockies tend to like quarterbacks," Parker said. "It's tough to say why. I guess we can bring a little different aspect to our game, having played quarterback at a big university with all the pressure that comes with that. That could be appeasing to the Rockies.
Kyle Parker doesn't know why the Colorado Rockies are enthralled with athletes who play quarterback in the south, but he's glad they are.
