NFL.com has released its prospect review of former Clemson defensive back Mackensie Alexander and graded him as a 6.22 on their prospect scale. 6-6.49 is categorized as a player that has a chance to become good NFL starter.
"Alexander is a difficult evaluation because there are times on tape that he looks vulnerable to quickness off the line of scrimmage and he doesn’t have the prototypical size of a top-end NFL cornerback," NFL.com said. "However, he was consistently sticky in man coverage and played with the instincts and confidence needed from a true cover corner. Alexander’s confidence may border on cockiness at times, but that also seems to feed his competitive fire. Alexander may struggle early on, but should settle in to become a quality starter by his second year."
The Tigers with Alexander were the number two defense in the country this past season in passes completed holding opponents to 47.6 completion percentage. In 638 snaps last season, QBs completed only 11 passes vs. Alexander with zero touchdowns while he racked up 23 tackles and two tackles for loss.
An interesting oddity is that he did not record an interception during his college career.
