NFL coach thinks Watson could be #1 overall pick in 2017

Fox Sports analyst Bruce Feldman talked to an anonymous NFL quarterback coach recently and he thinks that Watson can be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

“Those are NFL players he was going against," the NFL coach said. "He threw with anticipation. He was very accurate. He responded well to adversity. He’s a smooth athlete, and he showed he’s tough."

The coach said that he didn't think that Watson had the playmakers that former Clemson signal-caller Tajh Boyd had with receivers Deandre Hopkins, Martavis Bryant, and Sammy Watkins.

"And, it’s not like he has the talent around him like (former Clemson star) Tajh Boyd had," he said. "Boyd was playing with Pro Bowlers."

A few NFL personnel might be uneasy drafting Watson who plays in a spread offense but others will probably think he will transition easily into a pro-style offense.

"Some coaches probably will be uncomfortable with him because that’s not the style they’re used to, but guys that know what they are doing won’t have an issue with it."

Watson completed 333 of 491 passes for 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns and also had 207 rushes for 1105 yards and 12 scores this season.

His 5,209 yards of total offense and his 47 total touchdowns were ACC records and his rushing total was a record for a Clemson quarterback.

Watson's 487 yards of total offense set a record for a National Championship game and he is the first quarterback in FBS history to have at least 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season.
