Letter from James Barker to Clemson family |
Dear Clemson:
I write today to congratulate our Board of Trustees on making an excellent decision in naming Jim Clements, president of West Virginia University, as the 15th president of Clemson University. In my opinion, they could not have chosen a better fit for our institution. As you come to know him, you will see that Jim is an experienced and inspiring academic leader, a clear thinker and an authentic person. His academic field is computing and information sciences, but he has been a successful leader at every conceivable level from department chair to university president to chair-elect of the Association of Public Land-Grant Universities (APLU) Council of Presidents. There is a clarity in his thinking about what makes the 21st century public university successful. He knows Clemson well and greatly admires the work we have accomplished together over the past decade and a half. Please join Marcia and me in welcoming Jim and Beth Clements and their four children to the Clemson Family. It will be wonderful having teenagers in the President’s Home again. Go Tigers!
