Haley signs Tucker Hipps Transparency Act |
Governor Nikki Haley signed the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act into law on Thursday.
The bill will require colleges to post publicly all alcohol, drug, sexual and physical assaults, and hazing incidents by fraternity and sorority groups. It will have the name of the organization, dates and a general description of the incident but will have no personally identifying information. Schools will have this done at least 45 days before the start of the fall and spring semester. The 19-year-old Clemson student Tucker Hipps fell from the Highway 93 bridge and died during a run with his fraternity brothers from Sigma Phi Epsilon on September 22nd, 2014. Hipps went to Wren High School before Clemson and graduated there in 2013.
