Finebaum: "We got the best game, but it’s not the sexiest" |
Clemson vs. Alabama Round 2 will be played on Jan. 9 for the prestigious National Championship. It will be the first time in history that two football teams will have a rematch from the previous year's title game.
However, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum thinks that most of the country would rather have watched a defensive bore fest with Ohio State and Alabama. "I think the country wanted Alabama and Ohio State, the two biggest names in the business Urban Meyer and Nick Saban,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter. "But I think it's interesting had we had the old BCS, we would’ve had Alabama and Clemson, both times. We got the best game, but it’s not the sexiest game in terms of marquee value." Finebaum didn't know what to expect from Deshaun Watson and the Tigers heading into the playoff. "You expect Alabama to be good, but we weren’t sure about Clemson,” Finebaum said. "They’ve had moments this year and looked good down the stretch, but many people rode Deshaun Watson off after the loss to Pittsburgh and early (struggles) at Auburn. He had so much pressure on him early when they were struggling.”
