Clemson, S.C.—Clemson was voted the No. 1 team in the nation by the Associated Press on Sunday. It marks just the third time in history Clemson has been No. 1 according to the AP poll.

Clemson was ranked second in the USA Today Coaches Poll on Sunday, four spots higher than it was last week.

Clemson received 31 first-place votes from the Associated Press on Sunday, 25 more than the Tigers received last week and five more than second-place Ohio State, who had been No. 1 for each of the first 10 weeks of the 2015 season. Dabo Swinney’s team moved from third to first in the poll after defeating No. 17 Florida State, 23-13 last Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Last Tuesday, Clemson was named the No. 1 team in the nation by the College Football Playoff Committee.

The Associated Press poll on Sunday named Clemson first, Ohio State second and Alabama third. Baylor is fourth, followed by Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Stanford, Iowa, LSU and Utah.

Clemson was voted No. 1 by the Associated Press twice previously, the final two polls of the 1981 season (Nov. 30, 1981 and Jan. 2, 1982). Clemson received 1489 poll points from the AP voters on Sunday, 29 points ahead of second place Ohio State.

Clemson will play at Syracuse next Saturday with a 9-0 record. The Tigers joins Ohio State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Iowa and Houston as the only undefeated FBS teams in the nation. Clemson will enter that game with a 12-game winning streak, the second longest active winning streak in the nation. Only defending National Champion Ohio State has a longer streak with 22 straight wins.

While Sunday’s poll marked just the third time Clemson has been voted No. 1 by Associated Press, it is the 382nd poll out of 1098 that Clemson has been ranked in the top 25. This marked the 14th straight week Clemson had been ranked in the top 25, the eighth longest active streak in the country.
