Clemson climbs to #1 in the latest Coaches Poll |
Clemson (10-0, 7-0) jumped over Ohio State for the #1 national rankings in the
latest Amway Coaches Poll with 1560 points and 28 first-place votes on Sunday after a 37-27 road victory over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers are 10-0 for the third time (1948 and 1981) in school history, and Clemson's win in the Carrier Dome clinched a fifth straight season with at least ten wins for the Tigers. Clemson has won 19 of its last 20 games which is the best 20-game streak since the 1938-40 era. During Week 11 of college football action, #6 Baylor lost to #12 Oklahoma, #7 Stanford lost to Oregon, #9 LSU was dominated by Arkansas and #10 Utah fell to Arizona. The biggest riser in the Poll was Oregon that jumped seven spots to a #22 ranking while the LSU Tigers had the biggest drop moving down eight spots to 17th overall. ACC coastal team North Carolina jumped up five spots to #12 in the rankings. Three schools dropped out of the Top 25 with #18 UCLA, #21 Temple and #25 Memphis.
