The topic gained attention nationally after rival football coach Steve Spurrier recently joined Twitter (50,900 followers) in the beginning of March. "I wouldn't hold your breath on that. I'm on. I was just a Twitter quitter. I wouldn't hold your breath, but you never know. Never say never," Swinney said. Swinney used to have a Twitter account - @coachswinney but it is currently suspended, more than likely from inactivity since he has not tweeted since late in 2009.
