Swinney on being 12-0 on the season

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was on the ACC teleconference on Sunday and answered a question about how special it is that his team had a 12-0 record during the regular season.

"Well, it's really special, and I think, you know, everybody should take time to embrace that from a Clemson standpoint," Swinney said. "We certainly have tried to do that. That's what last night -- we enjoyed it. We got back last night, and man, the WestZone here, our facility, there were so many people here, and really happy for Clemson Nation and all of our fans because we have such great loyal and passionate fans, for everybody to be able to relish in such a great moment."

Swinney knows that it's very challenging to have an undefeated regular season in today's college football.

"It's hard to do," Swinney said. "I mean, it's hard to be undefeated in anything, and you know, so golly, you've got to be able to enjoy it, too, along the way, because life is so short, and you don't want to look back and say, well, man, I wish I would have enjoyed that moment a little bit more."

Swinney's popular quote 'fun is in the winning' applies to his team's mentality this season.

"I think it's important to keep good perspective, and that's what life does -- young people can kind of get caught up, but as you get a little older you have a little different perspective on things, so I think it's important for us as coaches to keep a good healthy perspective and make sure that these guys are having some fun along the way and enjoying it," Swinney said. "This is college, and at the end of the day, it's just a game. It's important to a lot of people, but definitely a special, special thing. I mean, 34 years since Clemson has done this, and it's just awesome to be a part of it. It's a blessing. I'm so proud of these coaches and the players and the leadership of this team, and you know, we'll enjoy it."

Swinney and his coaching staff will start to game plan for North Carolina on Monday.

"We'll get back to work tomorrow and fix our guys directly on North Carolina and trying to get -- like I say, get this team ready and put a great plan together and see if we can find a way to win the overall championship," Swinney said. "We know we're going to have postseason, and we win the game, we're going to get a chance to go play in the College Football Playoff. You know, shoot, everybody wants the opportunity to do that. You're sitting here with four quarters and we have to go play our best four quarters of the year because we know we're playing a team in North Carolina that wants to get there, as well."
