Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson is trying to uplift his local community by his play on the field and away from the gridiron.

Watson will partner with furniture chain Ashley Furniture to donate over $1 million worth of furniture to 176 families devastated by Hurricane Harvey back in September.

Most of the homes are being rebuilt by Habitat for Humanity and the furniture will go to furnish the homes for families starting in November.

“Having a home is everything,” Watson said to KHOU.com. “Besides calling attention to the work of Habitat for Humanity, I’ll be working with Ashley HomeStore to ensure every family gets the furniture they need.”

Habitat for Humanity is close to Watson's heart as his family lived in one growing up.
