WATCH: Shaffer hits go-ahead HR in home debut

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson standout Richie Shaffer hit a solo home run in the 7th inning to help the Rays' to a 4-3 victory on Sunday. He was the third player in franchise history to have a game-winning home run in their home debut.

Shaffer finished the game going 3-3 with three runs scored.

"He started me off with a couple of breaking balls," Shaffer said via MLB.com. "I was just looking for it out over the plate and sure enough I got it, put a good swing on it and didn't miss. I was pretty pumped, so it was awesome, it was a great feeling. I actually got to high five everyone this time, instead of making my own friends."

The former Clemson product was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round (25th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
