WATCH: Herbstreit expects better Trevor Lawrence, Clemson offense in 2019

Clemson's offense ranked among the top in college football after Trevor Lawrence took over midseason.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit expects even better for an encore from Lawrence and the No. 1 Tigers starting Thursday night (8 p.m./ACC Network).

"His approach to life and not only football will allow him to deal with the pressure," Herbstreit said. "I think what Dabo said about areas that they've challenged him to get better -- and specifically where they want to see him get better for any young quarterback -- the first thing is protections and be able to recognize defensive fronts. Last year as a first-year guy, they helped him in that area. If he can pick how to affect the protections, that can only help him.

"As far as his throwing, it comes down to what it comes down to for a lot of young quarterbacks. It's about footwork. He's an athletic guy. They run a lot of RPOs (run-pass options). He wants to be able to throw on balance...That's an area he has really worked on this offseason and I expect to see a better Trevor Lawrence with better wide receiver play and a better overall offense. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch them starting Thursday night against Georgia Tech."
