WATCH: Deshaun Watson reads NFL draft profile on radio show

by - Staff Writer -

The NFL draft evaluations can be ruthless, picking apart the minute details of every player’s game.

Even seemingly the surest bets at the next level take quite a bit of criticism, as Deshaun Watson found out last year before his No. 12 overall selection by the Houston Texans.

While in Minneapolis for the Super Bowl, the Dan Patrick Show took Watson through the exercise of reading an edited version of his draft profile. In said profile, Watson read that his frame, accuracy, vision, decision-making and more were all purportedly issues.

They were criticisms the October AFC Offensive Player of the Month and All-Rookie QB couldn’t help but hear during the process.

“I saw it. You can’t really hide from it in the media,” Watson said. “People are going to talk about it. It’s kinda funny, I was talking to a future hall-of-famer the other day. It’s crazy how they put these labels (on you) and say these things about you going into the draft.

“And then once you get to the NFL, they start talking about how good you are at these things and they flip the whole script. I just kinda laugh and it motivates me.”

Watson is working his way back from a torn ACL and said he’s targeting a return for May OTA workouts with the Texans. NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport confirmed Thursday that Watson is on track to do just that, per Texans sources.
