There is already a lot expected from Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

His No. 1 high school quarterback ranking has led Athlon Sports to name him one of the top 20 biggest impact freshmen this fall.

"The development and playing time of Lawrence and Fields will be something to watch in 2018," Athlon Sports said. "These are the top two quarterbacks in the 2018 signing class and ranked as five-star prospects by the 247Sports Composite. While talent isn’t the question mark, both are blocked by proven starters under center. At Georgia, Fields will battle Jake Fromm after the freshman led the Bulldogs to an appearance in the national championship. Kelly Bryant had a solid debut as Clemson’s starter in 2017, but Lawrence – a more gifted passer – is expected to push for time right away."

The 6-foot-6 quarterback passed for 3,296 yards and 41 touchdowns this past season, leading the Purple Hurricanes to an 11-1 record and the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament. A two-time Georgia state Gatorade Football Player of the Year, Lawrence completed 177 of 256 passes and was intercepted just once.

Lawrence was a three-time First Team All-State honoree at Cartersville, where he broke the state career passing records from former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson for both yards (13,908) and touchdowns (161).

The highly regarded Clemson offensive tackle Jackson Carman from Ohio was also listed as one of the best impact freshmen in the country for 2018.

"Clemson’s depth chart doesn’t have many glaring holes for 2018, but the line is set to lose three players on the interior," Athlon Sports said. "Mitch Hyatt is a stalwart on the left side, and assistant Robbie Caldwell will have to find the right mix to settle this group over the offseason. Carman ranked as the No. 17 prospect in the 2018 signing class and could slide into a rotational or starting role."
