Timothy to have surgery

by -

Clemson’s possible starter at right tackle, Gifford Timothy, was back on the practice field, but on crutches, one day after being carted off the field with a knee injury.

Dabo Swinney said after practice on Thursday that the MRI revealed a meniscus tear in Timothy's knee. He will have surgery in the morning and the team is hopeful he can return for the Auburn game. Timothy will be reevaluated in three or four days to see if that will be possible.

Timothy said a player rolled up on the back of his leg towards the end of Wednesday’s practice and caused the injury. Swinney said Clemson could look at Dalton Freeman at right tackle, but they will give Joe Gore a chance to seize the moment first. If Freeman moves to tackle then Tigers would use redshirt freshman Ryan Norton at center.
