Three Tigers make SI's top-10 players |
Three Tigers were named among the top-10 players
in college football by Sports Illustrated this week.
SI tabbed nine Clemson players total for their Top 100 countdown, with Christian Wilkins (3), Clelin Ferrell (7) and Dexter Lawrence (10) leading the way. “Wilkins leads the long list of Clemson defenders (six in all) on our countdown,” SI writes, “primarily because of the multiple roles in which he can be a game-changing force...While some of his linemates may go a pick or two before him in next year’s draft or outpace him in the team’s major stat categories in 2018, there’s just no one else like Wilkins.” Rounding out top-rated Clemson defenders, Austin Bryant checked in at 32 and Kendall Joseph (57) and Trayvon Mullen (63) also made the list. On the offensive side, Mitch Hyatt (37), Tee Higgins (69) and Travis Etienne (94) earned the honor. College football writer Matt Hinton also released a top-100 list this week where all four Clemson D-line starters made the top -11 (Ferrell - 4; Wilkins - 5; Lawrence - 10; Bryant - 11) with Hyatt (39) and Etienne (100) also making that top-tier. Hyatt, Ferrell, Wilkins and Lawrence all earned All-American and first-team All-ACC honors last season. Wilkins was named the nation’s top defensive lineman as well.
