Three Tigers earn ACC honors

A trio of Clemson University men’s basketball student-athletes earned All-ACC recognition, as announced by the league office on Sunday.

Redshirt-junior guard Marcquise Reed was named to the All-ACC second-team for his performance on the court this season. Reed’s second-team honors was the highest since Jaron Blossomgame was named first-team in 2016.

Reed leads the team in scoring this season (16.4 ppg) and also averages 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. He also previously earned ACC Player of the Week.

Reed has posted 11 20-point outings this season, including a career-high 28 points at Virginia Tech, while also grabbing 10 rebounds in that game. In that game, he tied a program record for eight 3-pointers in a single game.

He is currently the program leader in free throw percentage (87.8 percent). He also achieved the program’s 26th “Triple Leadership” all-time. He led the Tigers in points (20), rebounds (8) and assists (5) in Clemson’s win over North Carolina.

Senior guard Gabe DeVoe has put in a career year this season averaging 13.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. An ACC Player of the Week honoree, DeVoe has posted 25 points on three different occasions this season (a career-high) and is the first player to have two 25-point games against the same team in the same year since 1999-00.

He tied for second all-time with seven made threes in a single game against Georgia Tech. He tied Michael Tait (1986-87) as the second player in Clemson history to make at least five 3-pointers in four consecutive games.

Junior forward/center Elijah Thomas was named to the ACC’s All-Defensive Team. Thomas leads the Tigers with 69 blocks this season (2.3 per game). Thomas has also posted 20 steals this season.

Thomas ranks ninth in the ACC in rebounding and fourth in blocks/blocks per game. He leads the Tigers with 7.9 rebounds per game and grabbed a career-best 16 in a 26-point, 16-rebound effort against Texas Southern, which is the most in a single game by one player since Dale Davis in 1990.

Thomas is the first Tiger to earn All-Defensive honors since Landry Nnoko in 2016. Clemson now has seven players who have earned that honor.

Head coach Brad Brownell finished second to Virginia’s Tony Bennett in Coach of the Year voting.
