Swinney updates the injury status of Adrian Baker

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly press conference on Tuesday morning and shared the following injury news about defensive backs Adrian Baker, Jadar Johnson, and Marcus Edmond.

"He's just not confident," Swinney said about Baker. "He's practicing every day, but until he is fully confident, it's hard for him to compete. He can't go compete with those guys without 100% confidence. He is released and practicing every day. He is really the only one that can determine that at this point when he feels like he got that explosiveness to go and compete to play. Right now he just doesn't feel that way. He is his own best gauge right now, but he is practicing every day and on the scout team and working everyday. It's kinda on him.

Swinney said to a reporter that he didn't think that Baker would get a redshirt year for his injury this season.

"No. I don't think so," Swinney said. "He has already redshirted. He has another year and I don't think they will give him a sixth year when technically he is cleared now, but he also has another year. It's not like he doesn't have another year to play next year. If this was his fifth year and dealing with what he is dealing with, he might have a case. I don't see that happening."

Baker played in 12 games and had 13 tackles and two interceptions last season (FSU and SC). His crucial interception late in the first quarter in the red zone against Florida State turned the momentum of the contest towards the Tigers.

Swinney also said that Jadar Johnson will practice this week after injuring his calf against Florida State and Marcus Edmond has turf toe but will be practicing with it.
